And there you were, thinking that we couldn't get any more dependent on our gadgets. Yes, we've seen the odd made-up statistic or two, trying to convince you that a DVR could save your marriage, for instance, but this one seems legit. According to a work-life study by Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, 85% of US professionals say that they feel "compelled to stay connected to work 24/7", and 81% claim they're working harder than ever before. The culprit? New technology, specifically PDAs.
Not only do the professionals take their PDAs to bed with them, but about 35% claimed that if backed into a corner, they'd pick their PDAs over their spouses! So if you ever encounter a PDA-toting divorcee, you know that they were either backed into a corner, or their spouses found out they were from that 35%.
Ironically, while most professionals can't seem to be torn away from their PDAs, they still claim that it lets them spend more time with the family. But does it count when you're poking at your touchscreen in the vicinity of your brood? Really, draw the line, people, and even though we don't encourage too much time away from your tech, at least make sure that your tech-free moments really are tech-free.
